HELP FILE FOR BGQWK 1.0 BETA 40
$newuser
Before attempting to download or upload mail packets, be sure to first
check the compression method, protocol, limits, etc. with the C)onfig
option from the BGQWK main menu. It is also highly recommended you
select/deselect your conferences through the S)elect menu.
$main
BGQWK is a door program designed for use with the GT Power host mode.
It will collect new messages from any conference you are joined into and
bundle those messages into a standard QWK packet. This door is similar
in function to the Qmail door for PC Board systems.
C)onfig S)elect R)eset L)ist H)elp D)ownload U)pload G)oodbye Q)uit:
C)onfig will allow you to change certain defaults. Anything you
change is saved. H) will request additional help on that menu.
S)elect will allow you to select conferences for downloading. Anything
you change is saved. H) will request additional help on that menu.
R)eset allows you to change all message pointers quickly and at the same
time. You have the option on this menu to reset all pointers to the
lowest message number, the highest message number, or to upload the .PTR
file and reset pointers based upon information contained in that file.
Also, if you wish to upload a duplicate reply packet, selecting the dupe
function will allow you to do.
L)ist will list all users that have used the door. This is available to
give you an overview of the door activity.
The H)elp option displays this help screen.
D)ownload will begin the mail packing process. Before the packet is
compressed, you may hit ESC to abort this process. If you have tagged
files while in the board, those files will be attached to your packet if
you are using a batch transfer protocol. If your first download is
unsuccessful, you may select D)ownload again to begin the transfer
again. If the download was successful, selecting D)ownload again will
generate a new QWK packet.
The U)pload command allows you to upload any new messages or replies
you entered using the reader.
If you wish to send a netmail message in the netmail message area, be
sure to have the destination Net/Node by itself on the first line of
the message. A netmail message does not have to be entered into the
netmail conference. This door will automatically route any netmail
message into the proper conference if you have access to it.
Many offline QWK mail readers internally support the remote adding and
droping of conferences via the standard ADD and DROP commands.
If you wish to enter a message in an echomail conference but have it
so that it does not echo out into the network, the first three
characters of the message subject must be 'NE:'.
It is also possible to remotely tag files. To do so, enter a dummy
message to 'BGQWK' with a subject of 'DL:filename.ext'. For example,
if you wished to remotely tag the file BGQWK10.ZIP, enter a message to
'BGQWK' with the subject line of 'DL:BGQWK10.ZIP'. The text part of
the message is just a dummy field.
The G)oodbye command may or may not appear on the main menu. It is
controlled by your sysop. If it does appear, however, you can use the
G)oodbye comamnd to log off the board. It will drop carrier.
Finally the Q)uit command will exit from the door and return you to GT.

T) Transfer protocol
Available protocols include Xmodem, Ymodem, Ymodem Batch, and
Zmodem. If the sysop has Ymodem-G enabled, that option will appear
on the screen as well. MobyTurbo will be used on Zmodem downloads
if the sysop enables such. If you haved tagged files while in the
board, you will be given the option to download them via this door
if you use the Zmodem or the Ymodem Batch/G protocols.
The sysop may also allow use of the HS/Link protocol. If you choose
this, you have the ability to download QWK packets and upload REP
packets at the same time.
A) Perform unattended download
If you are using a communications program with Zmodem autostart such
as GT Power, I would recommend setting this to 'YES'. Basically,
this means once you select [D]ownload from the main menu, you can
walk away from the computer and take a nap. BGQWK will
automatically bundle messages, download them, and logoff the board.
Z) Send packets with zero messages
Some users may want a QWK packet whether they actually have any new
messages waiting to download or not. If this option is used, a
zero message QWK packet will be created if need be. This option
should be used by people using scripts to fetch their mail.
O) Seconds before timed-prompt prompt
At times during the door (like when you finish downloading your
packet and have unattended mode set), BGQWK will give you a certain
amount of seconds to cancel the hangup request. You can set the
number of seconds to give anywhere from 1 second to 240 seconds.
N) Check board for new uploads
When this is set to 'YES', a file called NEWFILES.DAT will be
included in the QWK packet with a list of new files and their
descriptions. Please note that BGQWK checks only the time/date
stamp of files uploaded to the board, not the uploaded date. Please
note that this option may not appear if the sysop has it disabled.
B) Check board for new bulletins
When this is set to 'YES', any new bulletin files will be included
in the QWK packet.
R) Read NEWS files
This option allows you to read the news ALWAYS or WHEN UPDATED.
W) Read WELCOME/GOODBYE files
This option allows you to view the welcome and goodbye files ALWAYS
or NEVER.
C) Compression method
Depending upon which of the following the sysop enables, you may have
the choice of the following compression methods:
[A] ARJ by Robert J. Jung
[L] LHA/LHARC by Haruyasu Yoshizaki
[Z] PKZIP by Phil Katz at PKWare
M) Maximum messages per conference
P) Maximum messages per QWK packet
These are self explanatory. Please note that the sysop may have set
a "limit" and you cannot enter numbers higher than that limit.
S) Maximum size of MESSAGES.DAT
MESSAGES.DAT is the heart file of the QWK system. It contains the
message headers and message texts. I would recommend setting this
option to no more than 1024K, but you are free to do so if you wish.
Remember that this file is compressed with PKZIP, so the actual QWK
packet will be much, much smaller than the maximum size.
Y) Send messages you wrote yourself
Some users prefer not to receive messages they entered. Some users
like to re-download messages they enter. This is self explanatory.
Selecting Q)uit at the selection prompt returns you to the main menu.
$select
N)ext will take you to the next screen of conferences. Pressing ENTER
on the selection prompt will also take you to the next screen. P)rev
will take you back to the previous screen of conferences. J)oin will
allow you to join another conference. U)njoin will allow you to unjoin
a conference you are currently joined into. L)stRd allows you to
change the last read pointer of a conference. Q)uit gets to the menu.
F)lag allows you to change various parameters about what kind of
messages you will pick up in each conference. You can choose to pick up
all messages, messages addressed only to you, messages addressed to you
and "All", or you can choose to "skip" the conference. Skip means that
you are still physically joined into the conference in the BBS but not
in the BGQWK door. Some users may occasionally like to read mail in a
particuliar conference online and rather not read all messages offline.
$selcon
This is where the sysop needs to put information about the difference
networks he or she carries and the rules of each if desired. Example:
LO=Local conference
GT=GT Power network conference
RN=RIME network conference
TX=TexasNet network conference
